“God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant” (Romans 5:20, NLT). This highlights both the seriousness of sin and the surpassing greatness of God's mercy. Instead of leaving us condemned because of our sins, He responds to our need with an overflowing supply of grace through Jesus Christ.

“And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work” (Romans 11:6). There’s a clear distinction between grace and works that we must understand if we’re to avoid being deceived. Salvation is a gift that can’t be earned or deserved; if human effort contributed to salvation, grace would cease to be grace.

“And all the people answered together, and said, All that the Lord hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the Lord” (Exodus 19:8). When the people readily agreed to obey God's covenant before fully understanding the demands it would place on them, their response demonstrated good intentions but also the limitations of human commitment apart from God’s enabling grace. This serves as a reminder that obedience requires more than just enthusiasm, but also dependence on God.

“For Moses writes that the law’s way of making a person right with God requires obedience to all of its commands” (Romans 10:5, NLT). Righteousness through the Law of Moses depends on perfect obedience, but no one can flawlessly keep God’s law. This highlights humanity’s need for salvation through faith in Christ rather than reliance on personal performance.

“Don’t waste your energy striving for perishable food like that. Work for the food that sticks with you, food that nourishes your lasting life, food the Son of Man provides. He and what he does are guaranteed by God the Father to last” (John 6:27, MSG). Temporary things satisfy for a moment, but Christ offers eternal life and enduring fulfillment. The challenge for believers is to keep eternal priorities ahead of worldly pursuits.

“Evil people get rich for the moment, but the reward of the godly will last” (Proverbs 11:18, NLT). Prosperity gained through ungodly means is short-lived, but a life lived in righteousness produces lasting benefits. God values faithfulness over immediate gain and reminds us to invest in what has eternal value instead of what merely produces short-term results.

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2). The world seeks to shape thinking, priorities, and beliefs, but Christians are called to avoid adopting values and behaviors contrary to God's will. Lasting change begins internally.

“For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death” (Romans 7:5). Sin produces destructive results; left unchecked, sinful desires result in spiritual death and brokenness. Freedom comes through Christ, not through self-improvement alone.
- September 7
“No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father” (John 10:18). Jesus’ death wasn’t a tragic accident but a deliberate act of love and obedience, carried out according to the Father’s plan for salvation. Because He has authority over death, we can have confidence in His victory over the grave and His power to give eternal life.

“Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me” (John 14:30). Believers are called to eliminate spiritual footholds that give the enemy access. Sin can give him opportunities to influence our lives, but walking in obedience to God helps prevent such footholds from developing.

“Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:19, 20, NKJV).
Invoking Christ’s name in our prayers immediately unites us with him, because time and distance do not exist in the spiritual realm. This promise is also true when we make intercessory prayer on someone else’s behalf.

“Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:16, 17).
Prayer that is pleasing and acceptable to God is filled with praise, joy, and thanksgiving. We can pray without ceasing in our everyday lives when we constantly seek his presence, bring everything in our hearts to him, and attentively listen to what he tells us.

“Estad siempre gozosos” (1 Tesalonicenses 5:16, 17).

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer” (Romans 12:12, NIV).
It’s easier to be joyful in hope and patient in affliction when we have a strong prayer life, but many people don’t know how to pray. Being “faithful in prayer” doesn’t mean predictably praying every day at the same hour for a certain period of time. It means utilizing our faith in what God says to us, and maintaining a two-way communication with him.

“Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck” (Proverbs 1:8, 9, NIV).
Believers are God’s children, and we benefit by listening to him and obeying his instructions. Obedience to the Father is beautiful at every level. This Scripture also applies to the relationship between children and their parents, and obedient children please God, as well as their parents.

“Lord, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us” (Isaiah 26:12, NIV).
The only way we can have peace, whether on a global or a personal level, is through God. When he works through others to establish peace, true humility gives him, and not ourselves, credit for what he does.
