“The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass” (Proverbs 19:12). There’s a huge contrast between the destructive power of anger and the refreshing nature of favor. Unlike under the law, God is no longer angry with mankind; this should encourage us to value and seek the life-giving impact of favor rather than the harm wrath causes.

“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10). We find peace when we quiet our hearts and trust in God’s sovereignty instead of striving to control everything. In stillness, we gain a deeper awareness of who He is and His authority over all things.

“And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me” (2 Corinthians 12:7-9). God is more than enough to sustain us, even in the midst of persistent challenges. Our weakness becomes the very place where His strength is most clearly revealed in us.

“Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly” (Proverbs 3:34). God consistently responds to humility with favor and blessings. Choosing a teachable heart and avoiding an arrogant attitude positions us to receive all that He freely gives.
- June 6
“Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you” (1 Peter 5:5-7). God loves a humble, respectful attitude. We’re called to live humbly, respecting those in authority over us while trusting God with every worry and care, knowing that He truly cares for us.
- June 5
“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God…” (James 4:6). God’s grace flows freely to us when we choose humility and dependence on Him. This is the exact opposite of the culture of our environment, which emphasizes self-reliance.

“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” (1 John 5:4, 5). We overcome the world not by striving, but through faith in Jesus Christ. This victory is already ours because of our trust in God, not in anything we see around us.

“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10:19, 20). We’ve been given authority over all the power of the enemy, which means we don’t have to live in fear or defeat. At the same time, our greatest joy comes from our relationship with God and the assurance of our salvation.
- June 2
“In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides]. Put on God’s whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil” (Ephesians 6:10, 11, AMPC). We’re in a spiritual war against the devil, but we’re not called to fight in our own strength; our strategy should be to rely fully on the power that comes from our union with God. Putting on what He provides equips us to stand firm against every scheme of the enemy.

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). There’s a clear contrast between the enemy’s destructive intent and Jesus’ purpose to give us a rich, overflowing life. No matter how tantalizing life’s distractions seem, we’re cautioned to stay anchored in Christ, where true life and wholeness are found.

“Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you” (Luke 22:20).
The New Testament would never have been possible without Jesus shedding His blood and dying for us. Because of what He did, we now have access to lives far superior to what was available to mankind before the cross.

“How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” (Hebrews 9:14).
Faith in what the blood of Christ accomplished for us frees us from empty religious performance. We can now receive forgiveness from God for our past sinful deeds; we no longer have to suffer with a guilty conscience.

“Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life” (2 Corinthias 3:6).
We who have been born again are products of the New Testament. We’re all able ministers of it when we spread the gospel of the grace of Jesus Christ.

“For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins” (Matthew 26:28).
Under Old-Testament law, animal sacrifices were required to cover man’s sins. Jesus—the spotless Lamb of God—changed that requirement when He sacrificed His own body and blood to activate the New-Testament covenant of grace.

“Friends love through all kinds of weather, and families stick together in all kinds of trouble” (Proverbs 17:17, MSG).
Unlike worldly friendships, godly friendships edify, strengthen, and build us up. It’s in these healthy relationships that we find loyal friends who love us enough to be called family; they won’t disappear on us when the storms of life hit.

“Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye” (1 Corinthians 16:1).
Religion gives us the wrong idea about our identity as believers. After we’ve accepted Christ, we’re no longer “sinners saved by grace,” but saints; this is how God sees us.

“Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few” (Ecclesiastes 5:2).
A critical spirit can cause us to say foolish things we’ll later regret. When we’re upset about something, sometimes it’s better to say nothing until we can think clearly.

“People who despise advice are asking for trouble; those who respect a command will succeed” (Proverbs 13:13, NLT).
Being hardheaded and stubborn is a trait of emotional immaturity, and holds us back in life. By comparison, being flexible enough to accept instruction and direction helps us learn and grow, and gives us success; this is a spiritual law.

“Praise the Lord! Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever” (Psalm 106:1, NLT).
When we take a moment to remember all the good God has done in our lives, it’s hard not to be thankful. A grateful attitude helps us deal with life’s ups and downs.
